Signal Warming at about 0.30 C per decade in 2016 to 2025
Summary
Citing recent research, the report states that global warming has sped up markedly since around 2015. Over 2016 to 2025 global temperature climbed by about 0.30 C per decade, close to 60 percent faster than the 1980 to 2020 average pace of 0.19 C per decade. Earth's energy imbalance and the number of marine heatwave days have also grown sharply. The report argues that faster warming pushes the planet away from Holocene-like stable conditions more quickly. As a result, returning after an overshoot of temperature targets becomes more urgent, and the time available for people and nature to adapt shrinks. The chance of record-breaking extremes and cascading impacts rises as well.
