Issue Korea's low-power chip and on-device AI industry strategy

Summary

The report treats low-power, high-efficiency semiconductors as the core foundation of on-device AI and therefore a focal point of Korean policy. The first policy direction is to concentrate policy capacity on chip competitiveness through a domestic neural processing unit project aimed at a decisive lead in AI infrastructure. The second is to use the characteristics of on-device AI to push AI transformation across all industries and regions and to supply hyper-personalised services close to daily life. The third is to build customised on-device AI semiconductor ecosystems for four key industries: automobiles, IoT and home appliances, machinery and robots, and defence. The agenda links device-level AI to both industrial policy and citizens' everyday services.
