Trend Convergence of 6G and satellite communications from space to ground
Summary
The report sees convergence of terrestrial and space networks accelerating to overcome the limits of ground-based communications. Services for autonomous vehicles and urban air mobility, as well as mixed reality and digital twins, require integrated ground and satellite networks. There is growing need to extend the high speed and low latency of 5G to seas, skies and other areas that ground networks cannot reach. 6G aims at three-dimensional coverage spanning land, air, sea and space, which the report says requires native integration with satellite communications. An AI-native network that learns, predicts and self-repairs is emerging to optimise traffic between ground and satellite links in real time.
