Issue Scenarios for responding to an accelerating climate crisis
Summary
The same KISTEP foresight work provides three scenarios for how the world responds to an accelerating climate crisis. In the most favourable path, technology bottlenecks are resolved after 2030 and international cooperation halts temperature rise around 2050, supported by a stable adaptation system. In the adaptation path, climate change continues but societies secure sustainability by surviving and adapting to the changed environment. In the failure path, climate change threatens the survival of humanity. The scenarios frame climate technology and international cooperation as the variables that separate stabilization from catastrophe.
