Trend Structural decline of Korean broadcasting as live TV loses influence

Summary

Korea's broadcasting services are expected to lose ground structurally over the forecast period. As live television loses influence and viewing habits change, broadcast advertising revenue is projected to keep falling. Pay-TV revenue is likely to stall because subscriber numbers have stopped growing and no new growth engine has emerged. Sales of programmes through OTT and other new platforms should hold up, but they are not expected to offset the weakness of advertising and subscriptions. KISDI therefore treats the lack of a growth driver in broadcasting as a key reason why ICT services as a whole grow only slowly through 2030.
