Signal BROADMIND non-surgical brain-computer interface EEG kit (Kickstarter)
Summary
BROADMIND, a neurotech startup founded in 2019, launched its Generation 1 Research Kit, a non-invasive EEG brain-computer interface, on Kickstarter, priced at USD 797 with early backers expected to receive kits by Q1 2025. The device features eight active electrodes, a noise floor of 0.8uVrms, compatibility with most commercial VR headsets, and proprietary AI models reported to decode neural activity with 70-85% accuracy, including up to 85% accuracy for 3D hand-position prediction. The kit is compatible with the open-source BrainFlow SDK, which provides a uniform, board-agnostic data acquisition API across Python, C++, Java, C#, Julia, MATLAB, R, TypeScript and Rust for EEG, EMG and ECG devices. BROADMIND has presented at international venues including AWE Asia, the BCI Society Meeting and the Graz BCI Conference, and describes collaboration with neuroscientists from EPFL, UCL, Stanford and UC Davis. Proposed applications include gaming, home automation control, and neurofeedback apps for meditation and therapy.
