Issue Irreversible physical actions raise reliability and fail-safe demands for factory AI
Summary
The decisive difference between physical AI and conventional AI is the irreversibility of its actions. A chatbot's wrong answer can simply be dismissed, but a robot arm that moves 0.1 millimeters off course can damage products, halt processes or even cause injuries. Factories are the harshest test bed because dust, vibration, extreme temperature and humidity, heavy repetitive loads and thousands of part variations coexist there. A misjudging logistics robot ships the wrong goods, and a slightly misaligned welding robot sends defect rates soaring. Success therefore depends not only on algorithmic accuracy but on reliability in extreme conditions and the ability to stop safely when something goes wrong. Because variables such as sudden vibration or irregular worker movements appear only on real sites, field validation becomes the gateway to proving the reliability of the whole ecosystem.
