Signal KEEI projects Korean renewable energy demand to grow more than 12 percent a year to 2030, led by solar
Summary
Demand for new and renewable and other energy in Korea is projected to grow by more than 12 percent a year from 2025 to 2030, the fastest of any source. Solar power is expected to lead the increase, driven by the government's policy of expanding renewable deployment. Setback rules for solar and wind installations have limited growth in recent years, but the institute expects them to be improved during the outlook period. Setbacks previously set by each local government's ordinance are to be replaced from 18 September 2026 by national upper limits, such as a maximum of 200 metres from residential areas for solar and 1,500 metres for wind. With these barriers eased, the growth of renewables is expected to partly recover its momentum.
