Signal German Government Selects QUDORA-Led Consortium for €122 Million Project NFQC-1k
Summary
Germany's Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) selected a consortium led by QUDORA Technologies for the NFQC-1k project, announced on 22 September 2026. The project has a total volume of €122 million and runs for up to five years under the ministry's Quantum Systems research program. Its targets are at least 1,000 individually addressable physical qubits, at least 50 logical qubits and a logical gate error rate below 0.01%, to be verified with a quantum Fourier transform. The platform is trapped ions controlled by chip-scale microwave near-field fields (NFQC) instead of laser addressing arrays. In parallel the consortium is to set up a pilot line for producing high-performance quantum processors. Seven partners take part: QUDORA as lead, TU Braunschweig, Leibniz University Hannover, PTB, NXP Semiconductors Germany, Forschungszentrum Jülich and AQT Germany.
