Signal Sales, machine operator, craft and farm occupations lose about 745,000 Korean jobs to 2033

Summary

KEIS projects that four major occupational groups will shrink between 2023 and 2033. Sales workers, which already fell fastest in the observed period at 2.9 percent a year, are expected to lose about 341,000 jobs as non-face-to-face services become entrenched. Plant, machine operators and assemblers are projected to lose about 199,000 jobs in line with weaker demand in manufacturing and transport and storage. Craft and related trades workers, whose decline had been mild, lose about 112,000 as the downturn accelerates in industries where they are concentrated. Skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers, after rising since 2016, turn to a loss of about 93,000 because of shrinking and very old farm households and mechanisation.
