Signal 15,000 education professionals participate in teachers' warning strike
Summary
On September 22 2026, about 15,000 education workers at more than 400 institutions across Estonia took part in a one-hour warning strike. The strike was organized by the Estonian Educational Personnel Union. Preschools struck from 8 to 9 am and general and vocational schools from 9 to 10 am. The union is demanding that the minimum salary for general and vocational school teachers rise to 2,312 euros by 2027. That figure represents the projected national average wage, and the union also wants kindergarten teachers paid at least 90 percent of that level, or 2,081 euros. The union's latest survey found that 69 percent of teachers had considered leaving the profession over the past year.
