Trend Long-run global progress in health, development and equality
Summary
The report finds that the world has made substantial gains in health promotion, economic development and equality. Across the Global South, a growing number of people can use health services without straining household budgets. Despite setbacks such as covid, many countries in that region have lengthened both life expectancy and years lived in good health. School enrolment has risen sharply, as has participation in vocational and university education. Employment remains the weak spot, however, because many young people in emerging economies struggle to find decent work and their qualifications often do not fit demand, which holds back growth and the move to sustainable jobs in fast-growing sectors such as green energy.
