Issue Regulating AI-bio innovation and securing health data, with Korea's AI bio strategy
Summary
The report expects new rules on approval standards and legal liability to be needed as AI-based diagnosis, treatment and drug development accelerate, and says narrowing the speed gap between technology and regulation will matter more. Leaks of genomic and health information cause irreversible harm, so safe sharing and use of large bio datasets for AI training is becoming critical. Privacy-preserving technologies such as data anonymisation and homomorphic encryption are expected to become essential in the bio industry. Korea's policy directions include developing AI bio models in five fields such as drug discovery and anti-ageing and investing in AI life-science research hubs and autonomous laboratories. Among four regional AI transformation projects, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region is to specialise in bio and robotics to lead local industrial innovation.
