Issue A new maritime economy, Arctic route readiness and growth hubs in fishing villages
Summary
The report proposes a new maritime economic zone centred on Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam, stronger readiness for the Northern Sea Route and economic hubs in outlying and fishing areas. Strategies include smart ports, eco-friendly ships and offshore plants, and insurance, guarantees and diplomatic cooperation for the Arctic route. National fishing ports would become growth hubs and special fishing village zones would be institutionalised. Core tasks add a southern maritime capital and combined seafood logistics and tourism economies. Expected effects include new maritime and logistics industries, maritime logistics cost savings of 30 to 40 percent, handling of 200,000 TEU a year and a higher non-capital share of GRDP.
