Signal Korea's renewable capacity reached 37.1 GW in 2025 after additions averaging 3.5 GW a year

Summary

Korea's renewable power capacity stood at 37.1 GW in 2025, and renewables supplied about 9.8 percent of electricity generation. Solar accounted for most of the capacity at 30.8 GW. Over the past five years new renewable installations averaged only 3.5 GW a year. Deployment in 2026 has also lagged, with first-half additions of around 2.0 GW against a goal of more than 7 GW for the year. Meeting the 2035 generation-share goal would require the renewable share to more than triple from today's level. These figures form the baseline against which the government's much larger 2030 target has to be judged, and they show a gap between goals and actual installations already opening.
