Issue Agriculture 5.0 as a human-centred successor to data-optimised farming

Summary

Agriculture uses nearly 70% of the world's freshwater. At the same time, four billion people face severe water shortages for at least one month each year, and by 2050 droughts are expected to affect three in four people. Agriculture 4.0 describes farming from about 2000 to the present, defined by real-time data flows, predictive analytics and automation used to optimise production. Agriculture 5.0 describes the farming of the future, which adds environmental and social goals to make smart agriculture human-centred and sustainable without giving up productivity. In short, it takes a nexus approach aimed at producing food both more sustainably and more efficiently.
