Trend Mobile-first AI platforms become Africa's route to mental health access

GWI's Africa Wellness Initiative sees the continent emerging as an important testing ground for digital wellness and health technology powered by AI. Two forces drive this, the spread of mobile phones across Africa and deep shortfalls in access to mental health services and to care in general. Local and pan-African platforms are combining AI with digital tools adapted to local cultures in order to widen access to emotional support. Because these services are cheap and easy to reach, they help people get around stigma and the scarcity of providers, and they can be linked to human care when needed. The Initiative argues that AI is improving not only clinical services but also everyday wellbeing routines. Regulatory frameworks and cross-border partnerships are presented as the groundwork that could let these tools scale across countries.
