Signal Tropical storm Senyar kills over 1,100 in Indonesia
Summary
Tropical storm Senyar struck Indonesia and neighbouring countries in November 2025. In the report's table of the most damaging weather events between April 2025 and April 2026, it is recorded with 1,109 confirmed deaths, 3.2 million people affected and 4.0 billion dollars in damage. Together with the Pakistan floods, the report singles out Senyar as an event with huge impacts in all three categories of deaths, people affected and economic loss. An event-specific attribution study found that human-induced climate change made the storm more likely or more intense. The report explains that climate change makes extremes more frequent and intense, but the scale of harm also depends heavily on other boundary transgressions such as land system change and on community vulnerability. It stresses that marginalized and socio-economically disadvantaged groups are hit hardest.
