Signal China combines floating solar with sea cucumber aquaculture
Summary
The report argues that floating solar panels can serve aquaculture as well as power generation. In China they are already being used to raise species such as sea cucumbers. The report asks whether Spain might follow the same path in the future. Its idea is to install solar platforms that generate renewable electricity while supporting mussel and oyster farming, combining water savings, clean energy and sustainable aquaculture in one place. The proposal builds on the case that floating solar cuts reservoir evaporation and outperforms panels on land. Spain has already taken first steps with the 2020 Sierra Brava pilot and a 2024 regulatory framework.
