Signal Thailand and Canada Launch Carbon Capture Pilot in Cement Industry via 'Saraburi Sandbox'

The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) announced a Thailand-Canada collaboration piloting carbon capture technology in Thailand's cement industry on August 3, 2026, World Cement reported. A Mobile Carbon Capture Unit (MCCU) was deployed in Thailand for the first time to test performance under real industrial conditions, rotating across cement plants operated by TCMA member companies in Saraburi province to collect technical data and assess future investment pathways. The initiative designates the 'Saraburi Sandbox' as a low-carbon technology testbed and public-private partnership platform bringing together government, industry, academia, and international partners to pilot and scale carbon reduction technologies while building investment models for a low-carbon economy. The project is funded by the Government of Canada through Environment and Climate Change Canada, with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) serving as implementing agency. TCMA is collaborating with Chulalongkorn University on knowledge transfer and capacity building for carbon capture technology.
