Signal More than half of new web articles were primarily AI-generated as of May 2025
Summary
The volume of AI-generated material online has grown dramatically in a short time. Deloitte cites the SEO firm Graphite, which found that by May 2025 more than half of newly published web articles were produced mainly by AI. Before ChatGPT was released, that share was only about 5 percent. Deloitte uses this shift to illustrate how generative and agentic AI can now produce content on a vast scale. The flood of synthetic text makes it harder to tell what is authentic and could degrade data quality for uses ranging from search to model training. Deloitte expects the problem of separating real from fake to worsen over time.
