Signal IonQ Demonstrates Industry's First End-to-End Real-Time Quantum Error Decoder
Summary
IonQ announced it had demonstrated the industry's first end-to-end real-time quantum error correction decoder running on a single standard off-the-shelf CPU. The dual-decoder architecture was tested on benchmark circuits simulating 408 logical qubits across 88 memory blocks, executing more than 31.5 million individual quantum operations. The decoding overhead added only 0.02 percent to execution time. IonQ's quantum research lead Nicolas Delfosse said running on a single CPU provides a practical path to commercial-scale fault-tolerant quantum computing. IonQ shares rose following the announcement.
