Issue Infrastructure procurement moves from periodic human decisions to continuous agent decisions

Summary

Deloitte expects AI agents to take over much of the management of AI infrastructure itself. As that infrastructure grows more complex, traditional IT playbooks are unlikely to handle the dynamic optimisation AI workloads require. Custom AI copilots for IT operations are already emerging that summarise alerts, suggest root causes and propose remedies, and such agents are extending into capacity planning and vendor selection. Amazon Web Services, for example, has published patterns in which agents analyse capacity reservations and recommend actions. The report sees these as precursors to fully autonomous agents juggling model choice, instance types, spot versus reserved pricing and multicloud cost and carbon. Procurement thus becomes continuous and algorithmic, with agents making real-time decisions based on workload demand, cost shifts and performance needs.
