Signal Around 40 percent of Spaniards are sedentary in their main activity
Summary
The report traces the rise of obesity in Spain to deep changes in everyday life. The growth of office work and time spent in front of screens has spread sedentary patterns. As a result, around 40 percent of people are now sedentary in their main activity. On top of this, especially in lower-income households, a lack of useful nutritional information, tight budgets and a food supply in which the cheapest options are often the most calorific make healthy diets harder. Obesity already affects 16 percent of adults and children, and if trends continue one in four children could be obese by 2050. The report puts forward policies that promote active mobility as one response.
