Signal Pindrop found one in six of its own job applications showed clear signs of fraud

Cybersecurity company Pindrop discovered that fraud had reached deep into its own hiring process. When it looked closely, it found that one in six applications to the company showed clear signs of fraud. Many candidates were using deepfake technology during live interviews. These applicants had slipped past every existing defence, including resume screening, keyword matching, reference checks and authentication checks. In response, Pindrop built tools that let recruiting and security teams verify a candidate's identity continuously throughout the process. It also developed ways to detect synthetic media or outside coaching and to flag inconsistencies across assessments, interviews and onboarding.
