Summary

The Digital India BHASHINI Division under India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology held a BHASHINI Rajyam state partnership workshop in Panaji on 27 July 2026, jointly with Goa's Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications. Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Goa IT Minister Rohan A. Khaunte joined BHASHINI CEO Amitabh Nag at the event. Konkani was designated a particular focus, with the aim of letting citizens reach government services, information and digital platforms in their preferred language. The event demonstrated the National Hub for Language Technology alongside BHASHINI App Mitra, Mitra and Pravakta, covering integration of speech recognition, translation, transliteration, text-to-speech and multilingual APIs into administrative applications. Amitabh Nag described the goal as building a "language-first Digital Public Infrastructure" spanning governance, healthcare, education, tourism, banking and citizen services. The initiative also aims to expand Konkani-language datasets and improve AI models supporting the language.
