Signal Over 200 quarantine pests listed, six established in Great Britain
Summary
The report describes quarantine pests as non-native species subject to control measures and sets out their scale. More than 200 quarantine pests have now been identified and listed worldwide. That number rises every year as new threats are recognised. Six of them are already established in Great Britain. As responses, the report explains that the governments and the Forestry Commission developed a Plant Biosecurity Strategy for Great Britain for 2023 to 2028, linked to the UK Biological Security Strategy, and that the UK Plant Health Risk Register, set up in 2013, helps prioritise pest and disease risks. The UK international action plan for plant health seeks to strengthen global biosecurity by monitoring non-native pests and so protect plant diversity in the UK.
