Signal IPCC holds Fourth Lead Author Meeting on Special Report on Climate Change and Cities in Bhopal

More than 100 IPCC scientists from 56 countries gathered in Bhopal, India from August 3 to 7, 2026 for the Fourth Lead Author Meeting of the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities. The meeting was hosted by the Indian Institute of Forest Management with support from the Indian government. Authors used the meeting to prepare the final draft of the report, which is the only special report in the IPCC's seventh assessment cycle. The report covers climate impacts and risks in urban areas along with adaptation and mitigation options. Its second-order draft review, completed in July 2026, drew more than 25,000 comments from 960 reviewers across 102 countries. Work on the report is due to wrap up by March 2027.
