Issue Connector risks channel impacts across domains
Summary
The report sees global risks as a network in which they reinforce and speed up one another. Within this network a few risks serve as bridges between entire groups of risks, carrying impacts from the edges towards the centre. Mis- and disinformation acts as a channel that moves the effects of technological risks into the societal domain. Environmental risks trigger large movements of people, and those movements have social and political consequences. Economic risks, by driving up inequality, can have effects reaching well beyond the economy. The report explains that ratings of individual risks tell only part of the story, while the question of which risks amplify others and which are amplified tells the rest.
