Signal Health and social work adds 982,000 jobs while education and farming shrink in Korea to 2033

Summary

KEIS groups several industries whose employment outlook is driven mainly by population change. Health and social work is projected to add the most jobs of any industry, rising from 2.858 million in 2023 to 3.840 million in 2033, an increase of 982,000 or 3.0 percent a year, as ageing raises demand for social services. Public administration, defence and social security grows by about 89,000 on rising demand for public services and fiscal spending, and arts, sports and recreation also expands modestly. Education services loses about 72,000 jobs as the school-age population falls, while agriculture, forestry and fishing declines from 1.513 million to 1.420 million because of ageing, farmland loss and mechanisation. Construction is expected to shed about 75,000 jobs as new technology spreads and the labour force contracts.
