Trend Energy transition entering an uncertain phase
Summary
The report holds that the energy transition requires fundamental changes across industry, buildings, mobility and agriculture. Every scenario for the Dutch energy system assumes an ambitious rebuild towards climate-neutral energy supply by 2050. Renewables, solar power and electric vehicles have grown strongly, but the easy gains have already been harvested, and offshore wind, rolled out despite many obstacles, now seems to have stalled. The heat transition is slow in both industry and buildings, and the pace of grid reinforcement and the viability of the hydrogen backbone are uncertain, so the transition has entered an uncertain phase. The report explains that this uncertainty governs the speed of the transition and that rising infrastructure investment costs are delaying solutions to grid congestion.
