Signal Dutch 2030 climate target increasingly out of reach
Summary
The report states that reaching the Dutch climate targets for 2030 is becoming increasingly uncertain. The energy transition is well under way, renewable energy has grown strongly, and solar panels cover large numbers of homes, schools, business premises and fields, directly involving citizens and firms in generation. Offshore wind has been rolled out successfully despite many hurdles but now appears to be stalling, while the shift to electric vehicles is relatively fast thanks to subsidies and tax incentives. Even so, the 2030 target is slipping out of sight, and the report considers it highly uncertain whether the commitments of the climate accord will be met in practice. The easy gains of the transition have already been made, and the heat transition in industry and buildings is struggling to get going.
