The survey also asked what will matter in a future society shaped by advanced science and technology, which values should be protected most, and which direction innovation should take. For important elements, work-life balance and technology ethics and responsibility stood out in both groups, far ahead of community solidarity and regional and global cooperation, with the public leaning toward work-life balance and experts toward ethics. On values to protect, the public favoured safety and trust while experts favoured creativity and freedom. For the future direction of innovation, harmony between humans and technology was the leading choice in both groups. Experts showed markedly more support than the public for a direction centred on solving social problems.
