Signal NCSC: AI will almost certainly raise cyber attack volume and impact
Summary
In 2024 the National Cyber Security Centre assessed that AI will almost certainly increase both the volume and the impact of cyber attacks over the following two years. It also judged that the effect of AI on the cyber threat would not be felt evenly. The report expects capability uplift from AI or commercial intrusion tools to let opportunistic actors quickly strengthen their attacks, making the damage more severe and widespread. At the same time, AI could improve security by raising system resilience and helping to identify cyber criminals. Yet if defensive AI is adopted unevenly, some businesses could remain more exposed to AI-enabled attacks.
