Issue A Korea-Central Asia partnership built around six synergy sectors
Summary
The report summarizes that cooperation between Korea and the five Central Asian states has developed in ways that widened Korea's diplomatic horizons and helped address pressing economic tasks. Central Asia now faces supply chain crises, geopolitical instability and global uncertainty. In response, its governments are pursuing medium-term national development plans that aim at attracting investment, improving infrastructure and upgrading industry to sustain development and improve living standards. The authors therefore see a need to identify and pursue cooperation fields that match the strategic needs of both sides. Minerals and energy, digital, transport and logistics, health care, greenhouse gas reduction and tourism are named as strategic fields where economic cooperation can generate synergies.
