Signal Share of employers providing training fell to 60%
Summary
The latest Employer Skills Survey shows that 60% of employers trained their staff in the past 12 months. Because the rate held steady at 65-66% between 2011 and 2017, the report reads this as an overall decline in training and development. The drop comes just as digitisation, artificial intelligence and the shift to net zero make some workers' skills obsolete and raise the need for retraining. The report explains that automation alone is forecast to affect up to a third of UK jobs, and workers may need to upskill to move into technical roles. The government's Get Britain Working White Paper 2024 aims to overhaul employment support by bringing together work, health and skills help.
