Signal Korea's projected 2030 primary energy mix: oil 34.2, gas 20.2, coal 18.5, nuclear 15.1 and renewables 12.2 percent
Summary
Over 2025 to 2030 the shares of coal and oil in Korea's primary energy supply are projected to shrink while those of gas, renewables and nuclear expand. By 2030 oil is expected to account for 34.2 percent, gas 20.2 percent, coal 18.5 percent, nuclear 15.1 percent and new, renewable and other energy 12.2 percent. Compared with 2025, coal and gas swap places in the ranking, with gas moving into second place. The renewable and other share, 6.8 percent in 2025, is expected to pass 10 percent in 2029 and exceed 12 percent in 2030. The shift reflects coal falling 3.7 percent and oil 1.9 percent a year while renewables grow more than 12 percent and nuclear 3.5 percent. Oil nonetheless remains the largest single source despite its shrinking share.
