Trend National governments are writing men's health into formal strategy for the first time

Summary

GWI's Men's Wellbeing Initiative reports that men's health is moving from advocacy into formal government strategy. Over 18 months from November 2024 to March 2026, three of the largest English-speaking countries launched or started drafting their first national men's health strategies. Before that, only Ireland, Brazil and Australia had such strategies, adopted in 2008, 2009 and 2020. England's strategy, Canada's public consultation and Ireland's second action plan are the cases cited. Institutional voices followed, including a WHO Bulletin editorial calling such policies overdue and a Lancet Public Health design framework for gender-responsive health systems serving men. In the US, a large philanthropic gift and an American Medical Association resolution point to similar momentum outside legislation.
