Issue Mis- and disinformation as the most imminent risk
Summary
In the survey, political risks were expected to materialize ahead of the other groups, and the most imminent threats are concentrated in the political domain. Mis- and disinformation leads them, taking first place in imminence among the 28 risks for the second survey running after 2024. Most respondents also expected geopolitical tensions to rise this year and the risk of rule of law collapse to grow. Mis- and disinformation also climbed four places in the importance ranking. The report describes it as a connector that carries the impact of technological risks into the societal domain. Respondents further classed it as a risk of high importance but low multilateral preparedness and named a lack of data and information as a key obstacle to managing it.
