Signal UN records 350 male victims among 484 documented conflict-related sexual violence cases in Ukraine
Summary
The Men's Wellbeing Initiative says the war in Ukraine has produced a historic body of evidence on systematic sexual violence against men in conflict. Between 2022 and 2025 the UN documented 484 cases of conflict-related sexual violence, and 350 of the victims were male. The Initiative links this to UNICEF's first global estimate that as many as one in seven boys and men experienced sexual violence before turning 18. Together, it argues, these data overturn the long-held view of sexual trauma as gender-neutral or as affecting only women. In 2025 Ukraine established its first support network for male survivors, signalling growing recognition of harm long silenced by gendered stigma. The Initiative calls for responses suited to the safety realities of men in such settings.
