Signal Quantum biosensing and imaging expected to reach high-end medical device level around 2030
Summary
KISTEP's technology outlook for quantum-based precision medicine gives a timing expectation for quantum sensing hardware. Nanosensors based on nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond and imaging based on quantum entanglement and squeezed light are expected to move around 2030 from preclinical and research instruments to the level of expensive specialised medical devices. The report cautions that the sensors, imaging elements and detectors that make up such systems are still costly. Reaching the reliability and reproducibility demanded in medicine and pharmaceuticals also remains difficult. For quantum computing, control becomes sharply harder as qubit numbers grow and error correction consumes extra qubits, which slows rapid performance scaling.
