Signal Iran says NPT withdrawal and nuclear doctrine revision 'easily achievable'
Summary
Abbas Goudarzi, spokesman for the presiding board of Iran's parliament, told Fars News Agency that withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and revising Iran's nuclear doctrine would be easy to accomplish. He argued that trusting the United States is essentially the same as accepting deception. He also stressed that dealing with Washington only responds to the logic of force. Any negotiation that weakens what Iran calls its resistance front or gives adversaries room to regroup would amount to a strategic blunder, he warned. As of mid-September, however, Iran had not taken any actual step toward treaty withdrawal, expelling remaining inspectors, or resuming enrichment. An earlier parliamentary call on July 18 for withdrawal likewise had not moved forward into formal action.
