Summary
The rise of political risks can be seen in all seven respondent regions. In six of the seven regions, large-scale war and geopolitical tensions now sit among the five most important global risks. In the 2024 survey each of the two held such a position in only one region. Both risks are in the top ten of every region, and political risks now lead in most regions, with large-scale war ranked first in several. Weapons of mass destruction also newly entered the top ten in Central and Southern Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania. Meanwhile the environmental risks that dominated the 2024 rankings dropped below political risks in many regions.
