Signal Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan sign Mecca Joint Defence Agreement
Summary
Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in Mecca on August 7, 2026. The signing was carried out personally by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Erdoğan, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The agreement contains a NATO Article 5-style collective defense clause, under which an armed attack on any one signatory is treated as an attack on all three. It extends the bilateral Saudi-Pakistan Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed in September 2025 to now include Turkiye. Through it, the three countries commit to deepening regional deterrence, defense-industrial cooperation, intelligence sharing, and military interoperability. The signing took place against the backdrop of the 2026 Iran war and renewed fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen.
