Trend Post-quantum cryptography to protect data against quantum computers
Summary
The report explains that nearly everything done online, from sending a WhatsApp message to making a bank transfer or storing photos in the cloud, is protected by digital security systems. That protection rests on mathematical formulas that are very hard to break, at least for today's computers. Advances in quantum computing, which can process information far more efficiently, are however driving a transformation in cybersecurity. Post-quantum cryptography aims to develop new security methods able to protect information even against the power of quantum computers, for example by refining and standardising algorithms such as CRYSTALS-Kyber for secure key exchange. The report expects the next digital security standard to be a race against time to update global cybersecurity before current encryption becomes obsolete. Spain is taking part through the Quantum Spain project and its national quantum technologies strategy.
