Summary

Gartner's fifth trend concerns domain-specific language models, AI models trained on specialised data for a particular industry or business function. Gartner claims they deliver greater accuracy and better compliance than generic large language models. The driver is pressure on chief information officers to prove that AI pays off in business terms, and these models are said to reduce errors, speed deployment and cut costs in critical workflows such as finance, health care and HR. Gartner outlines paths to build them, from pretraining to fine-tuning and reinforcement learning, deployed in the cloud, on premises or on devices. It forecasts that by 2028 most enterprise generative AI models will be domain-specific.
