Issue An obesogenic food environment
Summary
The report finds that the current Dutch food environment encourages unhealthy eating. Diets lean toward too much sugar and fat and too little fibre, vegetables and fruit, and such food is often ultra-processed. Easy access to unhealthy food in shopping streets, residential neighbourhoods and near schools and sports facilities makes a healthy lifestyle harder to maintain. Many people do take lifestyle advice to heart, but limited health literacy, chronic stress or financial constraints mean that not everyone is in a position to make the healthy choice. The report stresses that a healthy lifestyle is closely tied to a healthy living environment that invites physical activity.
