Trend Cellular reprogramming and senescent cell removal to reverse ageing at the cellular level
Summary
Cellular reprogramming and senolytic technologies aim to reset the fate and function of aged somatic cells or selectively eliminate senescent cells, turning back ageing at the cellular level. The field also covers senomorphic drugs that modulate the factors secreted by senescent cells. KISTEP expects that by 2030 to 2035 senolytic drugs will be commercialised, cellular reprogramming will enter clinical trials and antibody-based precision targeted therapies will spread. Delaying the onset of dementia, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, sarcopenia and respiratory disease could cut medical and long-term care spending in old age. Longer healthy lifespans would widen the effective age range of the working population and create high-value services such as precision anti-ageing clinics and subscription healthspan management.
