Trend Servicisation of Korean employment with divergence inside services
Summary
KEIS projects that the share of employment in non-service industries, such as agriculture, forestry and fishing, manufacturing and construction, will keep shrinking while service employment grows. The growth is uneven within the service sector. Wholesale and retail trade and accommodation and food services, where self-employment is widespread, are expected to lose jobs. Health and social work, information and communication, and professional, scientific and technical services are expected to gain employment, reflecting ageing and demand for technical skills. The trend means that the shift to services brings both expanding knowledge and care work and contracting traditional small-business work.
