Signal Health and social work rises to 13.4 percent of Korean employment by 2033

Summary

Beyond headcounts, KEIS projects a marked shift in how Korean employment is distributed across industries between 2023 and 2033. Health and social work rises from 10.1 percent to 13.4 percent of all employment, and professional, scientific and technical services and information and communication also gain share. Public administration and arts, sports and recreation edge up as well, from 4.4 to 4.6 percent and from 1.8 to 1.9 percent respectively. Agriculture, forestry and fishing falls from 5.3 to 4.9 percent as mechanisation and ageing advance. With the school-age population shrinking, education services drops from 6.7 to 6.3 percent, and traditional services lose weight, including wholesale and retail from 11.5 to 10.1 percent and accommodation and food from 8.1 to 7.6 percent.
